The S R Nathan Education Upliftment Fund (SRNEUF) was set up in 2011 by President S R Nathan to provide financial assistance and incentive for students at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). This has been done through bursaries and book prizes over the years.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected many ITE students who were working part-time and found themselves without jobs.
When The Community Foundation of Singapore (CFS) shared with the SRNEUF Grant Committee their Recess@Home initiative (under their community-driven Sayang Sayang Fund) to provide meals for ITE students during their home-based learning for the circuit breaker period, we were happy to support them in this effort. Indeed, this was what the late Mr Nathan would have wanted us to do.
The SRNEUF Grant Committee is supportive of CFS’ swiftly working with their community partners, ITE in this case, to identify dire needs based on crises within the community, and then creating and using the Sayang Sayang Fund to meet those needs.
